Ducted system filter cleaning instructions
The most important thing with ducted heat pumps is to clean the filter. If the filter gets clogged up with dirt and dust it will cut efficiency up to 50%, increase noise and increase operating costs as the heat pump has to work harder to achieve the air flow and set temperature.
Washable Filters
Washable filters are normally located in the return air grille and look something like below, they can be mounted at low level on a wall on a cupboard or flush with the ceiling in a hallway.
This filter should be cleaned at least every two months.
Cleaning the filter is simple - turn the unit off, flip the return air grille down, remove the filter and give it a vacuum. It's very important to clean the filters every 2 months with just a vacuum and replace every 2 years as the filter loses efficiency and allows dust to pass through.
Replaceable Filters
Replaceable filters are located normally at the indoor unit in the ceiling space or under the floor and should be replaced by a qualified technician as they come in varies sizes as shown below.

It's very important to replace the filters every 2 years as the filter loses efficiency and allows dust to pass through, these filters cannot be cleaned as dust embeds itself deep into the filter.
